Peyman Hooshmandzadeh: Got A Light?

Saturday October 15, 2016 – Wednesday November 16, 2016

Ag Galerie is pleased to present a new body of work by Iranian artist Peyman Hooshmandzadeh. Following on from his Tasyan series which demonstrated the pain of loss of loved ones, he returns to his characteristic documentation of the everyday objects and signs representative of Iranian middle-class identity. Got A Light? is a series of nineteen photographs of Iranian matchbox and matchbook covers dating from the 1950’s and 60’s. Images of popular Western icons and heroes and social slogans which were once meant as political propaganda and advertising for a “Western” lifestyle but ultimately failed and have now succumbed to their defeat and are covered in rotting mold.
Hooshmandzadeh is one of Iran’s most acclaimed artists and published writers winning awards and exhibiting internationally. He has two published monographs titled 100 and People of Horse. As a photojournalist he has worked with international agencies and was a founding member of the 135 Photo Agency in Iran.
