Mahboube Karamli: HappyVille

Saturday April 9 – Wednesday May 4, 2016

Ag Galerie is pleased to present Mahboube Karamli’s first solo exhibition consisting of six portraits of Iranian Brides. The series was taken in a beauty salon in the neighborhood of Shadabad (literally translating to happy-ville) from which the series takes its name. The result is HappyVille, an ongoing series of how women in an Islamic society aim to present themselves on their wedding day.
Mahboube Karamli (1985, Tehran) received her BA in Photography from the Azad Art and Architecture University in Tehran. She has taken part in several group exhibitions including Paris Photo (2009), Assar Art Gallery (2009), The UN Photography Exhibition at the Westminster University in London (2009) and the Dar Al Funoon Gallery in Kuwait (2010). She has also been teaching photography at prestigious private and public high schools since 2009.
